ABE introduces the “Ultra-Fast Protection System” for better protection of output power amplifiers in VHF and UHF broadcasting TV Transmitters
ABE Elettronica has recently introduced an innovative protection system for the power devices (the output MOS / LD-MOS transistors) employed in the power amplifiers of its transmitters.
The ABE R&D department has worked on the development of this system for several months; the protection operating almost instantaneously in the event of serious antenna mismatching and, under some conditions, in the case of excessive output power, to reduce the probability (or avoid) damaging the output power devices.
The presence in the transmitters of this innovative protection system is highlighted by the “ULTRA-FAST PROTECTION SYSTEM” trademark (patent pending); whose subtitle is “TO BETTER PROTECT YOUR OUTPUT POWER DEVICES”.
Even where it’s not possible to give a 100% guarantee for device protection in borderline cases, e.g. the instantaneous damage or disconnection of the RF output cable from the transmitter to its load (antenna) ABE’s testing demonstrated no damage to the output power devices (transistors). 1
To better illustrate: it’s like the introduction of air-bags in to motor vehicles; they don’t guarantee passenger safety in crashes, but they definitely increase the probability of survival.
